About the client
Bentley Europe is an SME that provides holiday resorts worldwide with luxurious furnishing and electric housewares.
To distinguish themselves in an overly crowded, conservative and cut-throat market, they needed an innovative, creative and practical product to breathe new life into their currently stagnating portfolio.
Design Approach
2. Technology Analysis
After this, I studied relevant technologies and improved my understanding of the requirements for warm drink devices.
3. Conceptualisation
Based on this research, I designed two product concepts that would provide innovative beverage heating, but also could fit in nicely with the client’s current portfolio.
A.
MiniQuic
B.
Beverick
In consultation of the client, we agreed that concept B, the Beverick, was the most interesting concept to develop further.
4. Physical Prototyping
I performed both a physical and a virtual prototyping study to decide on the most practical implementation of this design.
5. Digital Prototyping
6. Brand Alignment Study
I studied Bentley’s existing portfolio to derive an overarching design language.
7. Intended Design Language
Then I made a collage of design artifacts, to serve as inspiration for the new brand direction. I combined these two design languages to settle on a new, elegant look and feel that fits with the existing brand.
Final Design:
The Bentley Beverick
The Beverick is a small watercooker that heats beverages using induction. The small amount of water contained in the cups helps avoid heating an excess of water. The transparent cups and lighting communicate to the user when their drink is ready.
The casing safeguards the glass whilst the drink is being warmed up, to avoid accidentally knocking off the glass. And the automatically closing cap creates an overpressure to help further increase efficiency and decrease heating time.
