As part of this holistic project, our design team won the bid to design and optimise this plane’s interior for traveler comfort, whilst saving as much weight as possible.

Our design proposal was to sell tickets for on-board activities rather than for class-ranked chairs. This would allow people to enjoy a more personalised experience when travelling on long-haul flights; activities like fully reclined sleeping, group travel or focused working.

My contribution

My main role in this project was directing the team,  pitching our work to the partners and 3D modelling and rendering the design in Blender3D.

The result of the project was a radically new, patent-pending interior design for the Flying V concept aircraft.

Prototyping

We spent a lot of time brainstorming and sketching out different chair configurations.

To come to the final design, we also built several full-scale prototypes to get a sense of the ergonomical space we were working with.

Final Design

Nominated, Patent-pending & exhibited at KLM 100 & DDW 2019

Our design ultimately was integrated into a 1-on-1 scale concept experience which was displayed at the KLM 100 Years Exhibition and the Dutch Design Week 2019.

Next to this, we even made it to the finals of the prestigious Crystal Cabin Awards 2020.
